Overview

Jens Barosch conducts studies on the origin of presolar stardust grains in meteorites. These tiny particles formed in the cooling outflows of distant stars and predate the birth of the Solar System. Studying them allows us to better understand their formation processes and environment, as well as the conditions and evolution of the early Solar System. Jens applies advanced microanalytical techniques to locate and analyze presolar grains. His main focus are isotopic measurements by secondary ion mass spectrometry and the interpretation of isotopic data in the context of astrophysical models. His supervisor is Carnegie staff scientist Larry Nittler.
