EPL at AGU 2020

EPL at AGU 2020
Wednesday, October 28, 2020

This year, the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting will be held online from December 1-17, 2020. Earth and Planets Laboratory scientists will be presenting their latest scientific discoveries in areas including seismology, planetary science, mineralogy, data analysis, and cosmochemistry.

According to the AGU website, this year's scientific program content will be available "on-demand, with pre-recorded oral presentations and virtual posters available for attendees to view and peruse outside of the scheduled live Q&A sessions during the meeting."

During the conference, you can check this page for updates on all of our scientific presentations and posters. Make sure to follow us on Twitter for even more AGU content. Use #CarnegieAGU and #AGU19.

Awards and Elections

Staff Scientists Anat Shahar and Sally Tracy were elected to leadership positions within AGU. Shahar was elected to the presidential track of the SEDI (Study of the Earth’s Deep Interior) section. Tracy was elected to be the incoming Secretary of the Mineral and Rock Physics section.

These elections exemplify EPL's sustained leadership in the scientific community and continue the long-running relationship between Carnegie Science and AGU. You can read more about that relationship in our November 2020 Letter from the Directors.

AGU also announced the award of their Mineral and Rock Physics Graduate Research Award to Francesca Miozzi and the John C. Jamieson Student Paper Award to Rajkrishna Dutta, both members of this year’s class of postdocs.

It's not just current EPL scientists being recognized. AGU also selected former DTM postdocs Malcolm Sambridge, now at the Australian National University, to present the Beno Gutenberg Lecture of the Seismology Section and Maud Boyet of the University of Clermont Auvergne for the Reginald Daly Lecture of the Volcanology, Geochemistry, and Petrology Section.

Congratulations to all Carnegie scientists, past and present, who are being recognized at this year's AGU.
