Steven Shirey Becomes the 2015 President of the Mineralogical Society of America

At the recent Geological Society of America (GSA) Annual Meeting in Vancouver, BC, Steven Shirey was installed as the 2015 President of the Mineralogical Society of America (MSA).

MSA, founded in 1919, is the premier scientific organization concerned with mineralogy, crystallography and petrology. The organization sponsors a highly successful international lecture series, publishes the journals American Mineralogist, Reviews in Mineralogy and Geochemistry, and Elements, and is a major player in the scientific content at international meetings such as the Goldschmidt Conference, and GSA and AGU meetings. Shirey joins a long list of Carnegie geoscientists who have served as MSA presidents including current Geophysical Laboratory's staff Doug Rumble and Bob Hazen
