The American Association of Variable Star Observers Named Former DTM Postdoc Styliani Kafka Next Director

In February 2015, former DTM NASA Astrobiology Institute Fellow Styliani (Stella) Kafka will become the next director of the American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO).

The AAVSO is an international non-profit founded in 1911 to help amateur astronomers coordinate variable star observations for the Harvard College Observatory. Today, it is a private research organization located in Cambridge, MA, with a vision of "discovering the Universe through variable stars."

“The AAVSO is more than an astronomy club,” says Kafka in a press release from AAVSO. “It is a community of astro-enthusiasts who are curious about the mechanics of the night sky, and it is an essential support network for scientists trying to solve fundamental questions in astrophysics.”
